Libraries are magical places, and photowalks are a great way to examine, capture, and pay tribute to magical places. Continuing the series of community engagement and influencer events, I led my team in our most ambitious URL to IRL event yet. Collaborating with the San Francisco Public Library, we held an "empty"—shorthand for when a beloved institution gives exclusive access to photographers. About 35 beloved local photographers came, saw, and shot, and the results were ever book lover's dream come true: portrayals of what it would be like to have the whole place to yourself. Results included almost a million impressions, 400 additional followers for us, and we helped the SFPL break 10K followers. It accomplished our goals of building relationships with the local Instagram community, serving the library community, and making sure books are a part of the visual conversation on high profile feeds. This week marks the celebration of #NationalLibraryWeek and the 20th anniversary of the Main Library. To kick things off, @chroniclebooks and @sfpubliclibrary opened up the library doors early yesterday to allow people to privately tour the gorgeous space.
